420 teams are preparing to descend on Clwb Hwylio Pwllheli Sailing Club for the RYA's premier Youth Racing event. Starting this weekend, a record number of the nation’s top Youth sailors lock horns out on the Welsh waters of Cardigan Bay, hosted by Clwb Hwylio Pwllheli Sailing Club, for the chance to be crowned RYA Volvo Youth National Champion 2012.

Thirty-five 420 teams contested the British 420 Spring Championships held over the weekend of 17-18 March 2012, and hosted by the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy. Saturday delivered four races, with just one deciding race held on Sunday.

Sailors who are wanting to compete in the UK’s premier Youth Racing event of 2012 have only ten days until the entry deadline closes for the RYA Volvo Youth National Championships, which will take place at Pwllheli Sailing Club (North Wales) from the 31 March - 6 April.
2012 US Sailing Development team

Fifty-two talented sailors have been named to the 2012 US Sailing Development Team (USSDT), the youth pipeline team supported by US Sailing’s Olympic Sailing Committee (OSC). The USSDT was created in 2007 to help young athletes, who have been identified as future Olympic prospects, acquire the skills necessary to launch successful campaigns and compete at the Olympic level.

Saturday's heavy weather had blown itself out overnight and racing on the final day started in a light north-easterly that built through the final day of the regatta.

The 2012 International 420 Class Association General Assembly Meeting will take place on Sunday 29 July 2012.
The meeting is taking place on the measurement and registration day during the 2012 420 World Championships in Neusiedl am See, Austria.

Race Officer Brett Willcock used his local knowledge to set a course that offered the safe haven of Diamond Harbour (a harbour within a harbour) just 500m from the start. Heavy weather was forcast, and heavy weather we got, so the opportunity to rest up between races in the calm of Diamond Harbour was greatly appreciated by crews and supporters. For those with interested in old buildings, the top mark was off Fort Jervois - built to defend Lyttelton Harbour during the "Russian scare" of the 1890s (Russia had invaded Afghanistan!)
