IT'S A WRAP FOR 420 COACHES AND SAILORS CLINIC IN UKRAINE
Nikos Drougkas (GRE), 420 Class appointed coach, led a busy and massively informative 5-day Coaches and Sailors Clinic in the Ukraine, from 1-5 May 2019, hosted at the Black Sea Yacht Club in Odessa.
Sunday's final day opened with a briefing from Drougkas about the 420 Class learning resorces, including the 420 to the Max video and 420 E-Book of performance exercises.
The final on the water session was in a good breeze and wavy conditions and it was evident that significant improvements had been achieved by the sailors. Feedback included: “It has been very useful course and we learnt a lot. We are now in a position to prepare for our first National Regatta in Sergeevka”, “We learnt how to work with the spinnaker pole much better and faster and improved spinnaker hoists and drops,”and “we hope now to go to the clinic in Lithuania to improve our skills further.”
Following the sailing session, all participants were presented with certificates and polo shirts, held at the “museum” of the Black Sea Yacht Club where a lot of trophies are displayed including those of Michail Petukhov, latterly a Dragon Sailor, the main benefactor of the Yacht Club. The 420 Class presented glass mementos to the Yacht Club, Eugene Vitebsky.
Moving to the international racing scene, the 420 Class is excited that teams from Lithuania and the Ukraine will be competing at the World Sailing's Youth Sailing Worlds in Poland, and a team from Ukraine has already confirmed it will be competing at the 420 Worlds in Portugal this summer.
