Winning at home feels different...
What a final day has been for the 2024 420 World Championship. With the fleet going out at 12:00 local time and completing two more, very intense, races it was a championship to remember. Locals Lucas Freitas and Victoria Back secured their title on the Men/Mixed fleet while Kerkezou - Giannouli defended their 2023 title by winning the Women category.
Men/Mixed
First on the sequence today, the Men/Mixed fleet was a real shuffle after the 11th race with the top four in less than 10 points different. Lucas Freitas and Victoria Back managed to sail a better last race finishing tenth and claiming the World Champion and World Champion Mixed titles. Second place overall and Mixed for the Italians Vucetti - Bonifacio and the Kiwis Leith - Farrissey completed the Overall Podium. On the Mixed Category Ciampinelli - Miliardi came third.
Women
4 contenders entered the water at 12:00 to compete for the championship but the Greek Crew managed to defeat their title. Kerkezou - Giannouli claimed the Women’s World Champion title, tied with the Spanish Paula and Isabel Laiseca Bueno who came third. Reigning Youth World Champions Goncalves - Vassel completed the podium on their last 420 Championship.
Under 17
Tournis - Michalopoulos dominated the category after winning with a 50 point difference. Pasqual - Montoya Porland came second with the silver medal changing hands from third Padron - Mesa Oliver.
The next 420 Championship will be on Slovenia, the 420 Open European Championship hosted by Jadralni Club Pirat from 2nd to 10th of July.
