Spectacular Opening Ceremony of the 420 World Championship in the city of Alicante

 

More than 600 people took part in a parade along the Paseo de la Explanada, led by Mayor Luis Barcala and RCR Alicante President Miguel López Barbero.
The races will start on Monday 24th and finish on Saturday 29th July.

Alicante (22/07/23) - The 420 class has landed in Alicante and has done so with the Opening Ceremony in which more than 600 sailors, coaches and companions participated in the Inaugural Parade of the 420 World Championship through the centre of the city of Alicante.
A route along the Paseo de la Explanada was the place chosen for the 22 delegations to gather in one of the busiest places in the city; going along the entire seafront of the city until reaching the Auditorium of the Concha, when the authorities and organizers welcomed the participants and thus officially opened the 420 World Championship, which will be held in Alicante waters until next Saturday 29 July.

The Mayor of the city, Luis Barcala, together with the President of the Real Club de Regatas, Miguel López Barbero; the President of the 420 International Class, José Massapina; the Councillors Antonio Peral - Deputy Mayor and Councillor for the Presidency, Innovation, Coordination of Strategic Plans and European Projects - and Antonio Gallego - Councillor for Sports and Economy and Finance - and the Director of the 420 World Championship Alicante 2023, Kiko Sánchez Luna, opened the Championship, welcoming the participants and their companions to Alicante.

The event ended with a reception for the participants at the Castillo de Santa Bárbara.

Friday and Saturday are reserved for boat measurements. On Sunday 23rd July, from 14:00, an official training regatta will be held, where the crews will be able to sail on the race course and measure themselves against the other teams.

On Monday 24th July, from 12 noon, the competition will begin with three days of qualifying races and from Thursday to Saturday the final phase will be held, where the fight for the medals will be at stake.

The 420 World Championship has the institutional support of the Alicante City Council, especially the Sports, Tourism and Beaches Councils, as well as the Alicante Provincial Council, the Generalitat Valenciana and the Alicante Port Authority.

Private entities have also joined the sponsorship and collaboration with the event, such as the Ford Movilsa dealership, SeaDek Europe -a company from Alicante that manufactures nautical covers- and Schweppes.
