NINETEEN 420 TEAMS TAKE ON FEDERATON CUP IN TURKEY
The annual Turkish Yachting Federation (TYF) Federation Cup is an annual event which also plays a major part in the national team selection for 2020.
Hosted at Yalıkavak Sailing Club, located north-west of Bodrum, from 23-28 September 2019, the TYF Federation Cup unfolded in very light conditions for the first four days before increasing to a perfect sea breeze for the final day of racing.
Sabri Kerem Erkmen/Berke Burhan Gunduz raced very well, delivering a super consistent scorecard to day by day steadily increase their points gap over the rest of the fleet and win on a 25 point advantage. The pair competed on the international stage at this year's 420 Worlds and Junior Europeans, where they earned a lot of experience to take back for their racing performance on home waters.
Five teams were in a tight battle for second and third, with a tie on the points separating 2nd and 3rd at end of the regatta. On countback, Atahan Boge/Okay Aksun were rewarded with second overall and Selin Yilmaz/Ece Emine Sener picked up third place overall and also were the first placed women's team.
Next up for Turkish 420 Sailing is the 2019 420 Turkish National Championship from 25-30 November in Istanbul.
