ALL EVENT INFORMATION

The first day of racing here in Rio de Janeiro is on the books!

With the first warning signal at 13:00 and the breeze joining the 105 crews competing, two races were completed today for each fleet. With lots of wind shifts and ups and downs on wind speed it was a difficult day for all participants.

Male / Mixed

The Male / Mixed category is split in two groups for this event. Locals Lucas Freitas and Victoria Beck dominated the Yellow fleet with a bullet and a second followed by the newly formed crew of Emma Maltese and the recent Youth World Champion Mattia Tognocchi on second. The German team of Lysander Winter and Constantin Botsch are tied with the Italians in third.
The Sourlatzis brothers, Dimitrios and Nikolaos, were the top perfomers of the Blue fleet finding themselves on fifth overall. It was a good day also for Alessio Lulli and Mattia Gelli who were second best on Blue fleet, followed by the Kiwis Joe Leith and Joshua Ferrissey.

Female

On the female fleet the Spanish duo of Paula and Isabel Laiseca are leading with a bullet and a third place, tied with the reigning World Champions Kerkezou - Giannouli with two seconds. The recent Youth World Champions Joana Goncalves and Gabriela Vassel are completing the podium.

Under 17

With this event being one of the few where Under 17s are sailing with the seniors it was a tough day in the office for the boys. Three teams are seperated by only one point with Spaniards Bernat Cavaco Torres and Hugo Valor Vidal leading, tied with  the Greek crew of Ioannis Tournis and Georgios Iraklis Michalopoulos. Only one point behind are the other Greek crew of Ion Stamatios Stromatias and Konstantinos Odysseas Pigis.

Two more races are scheduled for tomorrow with the first warning signal at 13:00 local time
