Only a cataclysm could deprive Matisse Pacaud and Lucie De Gennes of the gold medal in the 470 class at the Junior European Championships. In Gdynia, the defending champions of last year’s title won in Vilamoura, as well as the current junior world champions, have a whopping 36-point lead over their compatriots Manon Pennaneach and Pierre Williot, and a 40-point lead over the third-place team of Roy Levy and Ariel Gal from Israel.

On the fourth day of the regatta in the Gdansk Bay, excellent sailing conditions prevailed once again. - The competitors absolutely cannot complain about the weather during these regattas. Gdynia, which is usually capricious, spoils them like never before. The conditions are very stable, with a wind speed of 8-12 knots in the first Saturday race and 10-15 knots in the second race, also from the northeast - said Michal Jodlowski, the Race Officer of the 470 class.

Pacaud and Lucie De Gennes started Saturday’s races from the fifth position (which was their worst ranking in the championship), but they proved to be the best in the second race. In total, they won six out of nine races.

On Saturday, the teams that advanced to the top three also performed well - Pennaneach and Williot finished second twice, while Levy and Gal secured the first and fifth positions. The top 3 places were lost by the Turkish duo Efe Tulcali and Defne Danismend, as well as the Greek brother/sister team of Lampis Evlampios Giannoulis and Eleni Giannouli.

Levy and Gal are also the leaders in the under-21 category. They are followed by the Spanish duo Neus Ballester Bover and Jaime Wizner, and the Greek pair Giannoulis and Giannouli.

Two more races are scheduled for Sunday, and on Monday, the top 10 crews will compete in the final medal race.

420:

The European Junior Championships in the 420 class, in the Open category, where 110 crews from 16 countries are competing in Gdynia, concluded the qualifiers on Friday after six races. On Saturday, the competition in the final phase began, and the Spanish duo of Jaime Ayarza and Mariano Hernandez lost their lead. The new leaders in the Gold Fleet are the Greek team of Iakovina Kerkezou and Danae Giannouli.

Jaime Ayarza and Mariano Hernandez had climbed to first place on the second day of the championships, but in Saturday’s races in the Gold Fleet, they finished in 30th and 20th place, dropping to fifth position. Iakovina Kerkezou and Danae Giannouli from Greece are ahead of the Spaniards Miguel Hernandez and Alejandro Corujo, who won the first race but finished second in the next one, as well as the Italians Corrado Cicconetti and Francesco Vassallo.

In the women’s crew classification, the second position is held by the Germans Valentina Steinlein and Lea Adolph, followed by the French team of Alice Vandi and Juliette Bourgeois in third place. In the mixed teams category, the Italians Marco Maresca and Nina Bramucci are leading, with the Greek team of Dimitrios Bitros and Cleio Soulioti standing in second place, followed by the Brazilians Freitas-Back.

In the under-17 category, 63 duos from 15 countries are competing. The Greek duo of Giorgios Michalopoulos and Ion Stromatias remains in the lead, consistently finishing in second place in both races on Saturday. They are followed by the French team of Simon Prot and Swan Berier Joyet, and the Slovenian duo of Jaka Valjavec and Vid Dobrinja.

The 420 class championships will conclude on Monday, with a total of 12 races planned.
