Jul 2023

The qualifying races of the Junior European Championships in the 420 class, in the open category with 110 crews from 16 countries, have concluded after six races. The sailors who made it to the Gold Fleet will compete for medals, while the Silver Fleet will battle for lower positions.
In the first part of the regatta, Jaime Ayarza and Mariano Hernandez performed the best and maintained their lead. The Spanish team consistently placed in the top positions, winning two races and finishing second, third, and fourth, with the exception of one setback when they finished 39th. The leaders now have a significant advantage over the Greek duo of Iakovina Kerkezou and Danae Giannouli, as well as the German pair Valentina Steinlein and Lea Adolph.
Meanwhile, in the under-17 category, which features 63 teams from 15 countries, there has been a change in the leadership once again. The German team of Hannes Wehrle and Finn Meichle dropped to 12th place, while the Greeks Giorgios Michalopoulos and Ion Stromatias moved up to first place. The Slovenian duo of Jaka Valjavec and Vid Dobrinja is in second place, followed by their compatriots Athanasios Lachanis and Sokratis Chamarias in third.
The championships will conclude on Monday, with 12 races scheduled for each class.
