In a fleet of more than 200 boats, the young sailors of the 420 fleet dominated the leaderboard after three tough races in cold, strong winds gusting up to 30 knots on Saturday at the Tiger Trophy. Taking place on Rutland Water from 2-3 February, the Tiger Trophy is a winter classic.

Day 3 of 2012 New Zealand Nationals

Race Officer Brett Willcock used his local knowledge to set a course that offered the safe haven of Diamond Harbour (a harbour within a harbour) just 500m from the start. Heavy weather was forcast, and heavy weather we got, so the opportunity to rest up between races in the calm of Diamond Harbour was greatly appreciated by crews and supporters. For those with interested in old buildings, the top mark was off Fort Jervois - built to defend Lyttelton Harbour during the "Russian scare" of the 1890s (Russia had invaded Afghanistan!)

Trapeze safety seminar in USA

420 General Event News

Many in the USA sailing community are aware of the tragic drowning of 14-year old Olivia Constants in a club-supervised practice in Annapolis in June, 2011.

Olivia and her skipper were part of their club’s Club 420 Travelling Team that raced against other clubs in the Chesapeake Bay area. The drowning was caused by Olivia’s trapeze gear becoming “caught on something,” which held her underwater.
