Erica Dawson - From 420 Champion to Starling Champion

27
Apr 2012

Erica Dawson has become the first female in Starling Class history to make it into the top three, let alone win the Nationals in New Zealand. Erica Dawson of Murrays Bay Sailing Club sailed consistently throughout the 2012 Starling National Championship and domination of the last race set her a clear to win the title.

The Championship took place from 10-14 April 2012 – with this accolade adding to recent triumphs by Erica.

Aged 17 years, Erica has recently been named to the 2012 NZL Yachting Trust Youth Team which will attend the Four Star Pizza ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship in Ireland in July. She will be sailing in the female 420 fleet with Ellie Copeland, after finishing as top girls’ team at the 2012 New Zealand 420 National Championships.

Earlier this year Erica also competed at the 2012 470 Junior World Championships which were held in Takapuna, New Zealand in January 2012 where she finished sixth overall with crew Vicky Francis.
