420 Junior Champions to ISAF World Cup Winners
2014 has been quite simply a boom year for former 420 sailors Jordi Xammar/Joan Herp from Spain.
Now competing in the Olympic 470 Class from the 420, the perfect partnership of Jordi Xammar/Joan Herp has won both the 2014 470 Junior World and 470 Junior European Championships, marking their second consecutive Junior Worlds win.
Domination in this year's junior circuit was not easy but, buoyed by their Summer's success and after an intense training programme, the pair marched onto the Santander 2014 ISAF Worlds in September and matched the world's best out on the tricky race track. They secured Spain’s slot to the 2016 Rio Olympics and their slot in the line-up for the ISAF Sailing World Cup Grand Final in Abu Dhabi.
Now a month later, the pair have just won ISAF Sailing World Cup Qingdao in China, ahead of teams with many more years’ experience. Along with their win came a very handy prize money bonus of US$18,000.
The Xammar/Herp team has achieved an upwards trajectory of results for the past few years, but their performance in 2014 has been quite simply astonishing.
Great to see 420 sailors move onto the next stage in their sailing careers in such phenomenal style.
