Vivier Brothers Take the Limelight at Southern Charter Grand Slam 2
Eben and Johan Vivier claimed three wins from 5 races at the Southern Charter Grand Slam 2 over the weekend of 5-6 December at Theewater Sports Club in South Africa.
The Vivier brothers set the pace from the outset, winning the opening race and never slipping below a third place finish in the eight-boat 420 fleet. Second to David Jacobs/Daniel Agulhas (RSA), and third to Nicholas Faraday/Wade Ashton (RSA), both teams managing to take a sniff at the front of the fleet and each claim a race win too. Top girls team were Anke van Rooyen/Lea Smit (RSA) in fourth overall.
The Southern Charter Grand Slam is a series of four events hosted at different sailing clubs in South Africa over 2015/2016. Grand Slam 1 took place over 19-20 September with the win also going to Eben and Johan. After Grand Slam 2, the next event is over 6-7 February 2016 with Grand Slam 3 hosted at Hermanus Yacht Club, wrapping up with the Grand Slam Final on the weekend of 25-26 March at Voelvlei Yacht Club.
Now in its fourth year, the Southern Charter Grand Slam has proven itself hugely popular, consistently attracting over 200 sailors to each event, with various other classes, in addition to the 420, racing.
