Sailing at 16th Asian Games Guangzhou 2010 starts midday Sunday!
The Asian Games are underway!! First start is at midday local time on Sunday. Nino Shmueli reports from the Shanwei in China that the practice race was in 12-15 kn.
420 World Champions, Xiaman Justin Liu & Feng Yaun Sherman Cheng of Singapore will defend their Asian title from the 2006 Games, but also face challenge from the 2010 Junior World Champions, Atiwat Chomtongdee & Navee Thamsoontorn of Thailand, 4th overall at Haifa.
Also well known on the 420 Class circuit are Wing Ho Kwan & Bernard Ian Kay of Hong Kong (competing at the Junior Euros 2009 and the Worlds 2010), Qing Rachel Lee & Rui Qi Cecilia Low (Singapore) (Cecilia twice at ISAF Youths, Bronze in 2009 – and Rachel leading helm at the Aus Youth Nats), Khairunni Mohd Afendi & Nora Mohd Sayed (Malaysia) (15th at 2009 ISAFs, then Khairunni 8th in 2010) and Mohammad Hafizzudin Mazelan & Ku Anas B. Ku Zamil (MAS) (Mohammad was 16th at the 2009 ISAFs).
8 nations represented, with China and Korea, and particularly good to welcome new 420 Classes from Iran and Pakistan.
