In a closely fought selection series of 11 races over two weekends and at different venues, GBR completed its Worlds and Junior Euros selection series on Monday. The points say it all! James Rusden & Joe Williams won by one point from Ben Saxton and David de Boltz, scoring bullets in the two races on the last day; the gap after the two leading boats was some 28 points. Ben Palmer & Piers Strong were 3rd, with Matt Rainback & Simon Foskett 4th and Owain Matthews & Tim Saxton 5th.

Imogen Stanley & Kate Macgregor, Bronze winners at last year’s Junior Europeans, led the women, in 7th overall. But Lucy de Boltz & Milly Parkin made a strong challenge in the second event, to pull up to 9th overall. Becca Kalderon & Rosie Sibthorp were in 13th in a Series’ fleet of 32 boats.

A flotilla of Irish boats also sailed in for the two GBR events (at Bala SC in Wales and at Highcliffe SC on the south coast). Stephen Tiernan & Rob Lehane of Kinsale YC took 9th in the second open event, to build on 11th in the first. Jane Butler & Jennifer Andreasson of the Royal St George YC lead the Irish women at both.
