Getting to know Malaysia's 420 helm Khairun Hanna Mohd Afendy
The sport of sailing is in the blood of the Mohd Afendy family with a string of sailors in the Malaysian Sailing team being led by their father.
When the Youth Worlds Emerging Nations Program touched down in Langkawi, Malaysia a few weeks ago, World Sailing TV were given exclusive access into the lives of the Mohd Afendy family, paying particular attention to Khairun Hanna Mohd Afendy who participated in the ENP clinic.
Khairun Hanna is participating at the upcoming Youth Worlds in the 420 and has big dreams. Surrounded by her family that includes her father, Mohd Afendy Abdullah, the General Manager of the Malaysian Sailing Team, and her brother, Khailrulnizam Mohd Afendy who sailed at the London 2012 Olympic Games she has great role models around her.

Khairun Hanna Mohd Afendy, "My ultimate dream is to compete in the Tokyo 2020 or 2024. My sister and I share the same dream to go in the Tokyo Olympics so we are planning on sailing the 470 together in the future."
Mohd Afendy Abdullah, "Every one of my kids are sailors. You know, they are born to be a sailor, you know I don't force them. By nature they come with their brother or sister and they just try sailing. My son Khairun was in the last Olympics, now preparing for the Rio. Another daughter is in the Laser Radial also preparing for the Olympics in Rio and the elder daughter is in 470 also in the National programme and I have Khairun Hanna is in the 420 helming, she will be taking part in the Youth Worlds and I also have the next one, only the 12 years old Sharifa Norazizah, who is still in the national team in Optimist.
"And maybe two young brothers, only 3 years and 1 years old; you can see in future they will be good sailors."
Khairulnizam Mohd Afendy, "Hanna is a very good girl, she works very hard in training and also off the training is very determined to win. I'm proud of Hanna to this stage. We are getting better and better in sailing. Hanna has a natural ability because, I can see how she handles the boat, how she trains, how she reacts with the crew, everything. She is a natural, still young; she has a lot of time to get better and better. I think in this level she's getting good."
ISAF Youth Worlds
Langkawi, Malaysia is hosting the 45th edition of the ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships from 27 December to 3 January 2016. More than 380 sailors from 80 sailing in more than 300 boats across nine disciplines will compete in Malaysia.
