A daily breeze of 8-13 knots guaranteed quality racing across the eleven races, as teams launched into their final battle to be selected to represent France at this year’s Youth Sailing World Championship in New Zealand. A decisive final race day decided the winners, with all to play for as teams contested race 11.

Violette Dorange/Camille Orion from La Rochelle were crowned 2016 French Champions ahead of Jessie Kampman/Léa Sibertin-Blanc from Antibes. Kampman /Sibertin-Blanc went into the final race on 68 points, ahead of Dorange/Orion, but a disastrous final race saw them plummet through the fleet to finish 24th overall and lose the lead. Bronze medals to Solenza Mariani/Maelle Gauthier from Maugio Carnon

Going into the final race Alexandre Demange/Aurelien Barthelemy from La Rochelle held a 7 point advantage over Enzo Balanger/Gauthier Tallieu also from La Rochelle, and their 5th place finish in race 11 was more than enough to wrap up victory. Bronze medals to Tristan Perron-Philippe/Corentin Bretagne from Brittany.

The two Championship winning teams Violette Dorange/Camille Orion and Alexandre Demange/Aurelien Barthelemy are selected to compete at the 2016 Youth Sailing World Championship in New Zealand this coming December.
