The 2016 I420 Gulf Coast Champs were hosted by the Texas Corinthian Yacht Club in Kemah, Texas.  Fourteen boats were vying for the title and points towards qualifying for the USA teams for the 420 Class World Championships in Italy and 420 Class Junior European Championships in Hungary this summer.

Galveston Bay served up champagne conditions with temperatures in the 70s and a tricky 10-18 knot offshore breeze, more than enough to keep sailors on their toes. Eyes out of the boat was the name of the game, as staying in the lines of pressure made the difference between staying on full plane and having the crew in the boat.

Also up on the podium, were Eli Burnes/J. Noble Reynoso who took second, and Jack Johansson/Ian Robinson in third. Ana Clare Sole/Sophia Sole were the top girls team, in ninth overall.

The Texas Corinthina Yacht Club (TCYC) Race Committee ran an intense 6 race series on Saturday and 4 on Sunday - for a no let-off 10-race series over two days. The racing was strong across the fleet, with 6 teams winning a race.

Up next for 420 racing in the USA is the 2016 420 US Mid-Winter Championships, 5-6 March, when the fleet will again descend on the Texas Corinthina Yacht Club.
