Contract signed for 2016 420 World Championships
The contract between the International 420 Class Association and Organizing Committee for the 2016 420 World Championships was officially signed at a ceremony on Tuesday 9 February at the Yacht Club Sanremo in Italy.
Nino Shmueli, President of the International 420 Class Association commented, “We are very excited the 420 World Championships are being held in Sanremo. Italy is home to a massive depth of 420 sailing and the nation’s talented sailors have proven themselves as a force to be matched at Championship level. We are looking forward to Italy’s best 420 sailors welcoming fellow athletes from around the world to race on their waters, in what will be a celebration of 420 sailing over the intense six days of competition.”
Beppe Zaoli, President of the Yacht Club Sanremo joined Shmueli in signing the contract, along with other club representatives including Gianni Bojolo, Umberto Zocca, together with the club's 420 coaches Fernanda Sesto and Davide Ortelli.
The 2016 420 World Championships will be held at Marina degli Aregai in Sanremo, Italy, 15-23 July, organized by Sanremo Yacht Club in partnership with the Italian 420 Class Association, Federaziona Italiana Vela and International 420 Class Association.
The 420 World Championship incorporates three separate World titles:
- 2016 420 World Championships - is open to teams of all ages. Each nation is entitled to 7 boats, with 14 boats for the host nation.
- 2016 420 Ladies World Championships - is open to teams of all ages. Each nation is entitled to 7 boats, with 14 boats for the host nation.
- 2016 U17 420 World Championship - is restricted to athletes aged 16 and under at the end of 2016. Each 420 National Class Association is entitled to enter 6 boats (3 boats men or mixed and 3 boats ladies) and the host NCA entiteld to 12 boats (6 boats men or mixed and 6 boats ladies). All entries to the U17 World Championship will race in one fleet. If there are less than 30 entries the U17 fleet will be included in the respective of Worlds and Ladies fleet
