Taking place in Gdynia, Poland, the Youth Sailing World Champoinship is the sport's premier multi-class youth event, bringing together the world's top youth sailors in a competition where each nation is only entitled to one entry per event.

Every year, the 420 Class welcomes returning teams and new faces hoping to make their mark. The 420 Class also supports nations who have not previously competed to enter the Championship or those who are considered as emerging nations on the international sailing stage. As part of our ongoing Development Programme we run Clinics around the world, which aim to improve skill levels of coaches and sailors and provide extra support to those targeting a future appearance at a 420 Championship or the Youth Worlds.

At 420 Championships and the Youth Worlds, the 420 Class also provides on-site coaching which helps guide and brief sailors on a daily basis. At this year's Youth Worlds, renowned 420 coach NIkos Drougkas has been appointed to provide daily coaching support for all 420 teams, with particular support to the teams from Belarus, Lithuania and the Ukraine. These teams participated in our clinics earlier this year in Lithuania and the Ukraine and from that have been able to make the step up to international competition.

Speaking about the 420 Class coaching support at the Youth Worlds, Rob Holden, World Sailing's Training and Delivery Manager, said, "It's been very successful this year and we have seen a huge impact and a lot of coaches who have been very happy with what was delivered by Nikos, and we have a lot of sailors who have learned a lot. So the impact, even for reasonably emerging nations, was huge. This was really valuable and I can see long term benefits."

The experience gained from competing at a multi-nation event is huge and will serve young sailors well as they embark on their competitive sailing career.
