Report from the Open Dutch 420 Championships/Dutch Youth
Regatta
Evert Jan van Garderen, President
of the Dutch 420 Class Association, writes: “After light winds on Thursday and Friday, 5 races were
scheduled for Saturday. This was the final day for the selection of the Dutch
teams participating at the ISAF Youth Worlds in Turkey.
Three teams were still in the race for winning the competition for the ladies,
but in the last race Charlotte Stumpel and Shannen Marck underpinned their
consistent performance by finishing first. Under the steady weather conditions
with about 11 knots wind Max Deckers and Duko Bos had a leading position,
but very close to Pieter Goedhart and Lars van Stekelenborg, who had to finish a few boats ahead of Max
and Duko to beat them. After a nerve breaking last race Max and Duko defended their position successfully by one point
difference! Max and Duko were last year's 420 class champions and then just
missed the ISAF selection, but this year they realised their goal.
“After another 3 races on Sunday the Swiss team Linda Fahrni
and Maja Siegenthaler won
the championship with team Max Deckers and Buko Bos ranking second and team
Pieter Goedhart and Lars van Stekelenborg
ranking third. It was a great event with 14 exciting races”.
