The first selection events for the NZL team for the ISAF Youth Worlds, Sail Auckland had 14 teams competing. In relatively light winds, giving some close racing, the event was won, decisively by 12 points over 8 races, by James Turner & Logan Dunning-Beck of Murrays Bay SC. Alex Munro & Luke Stevenson of Wakatere BC were 2nd. There was a Malaysian duel for 3rd place; Khairunnissa Mohd Afendy & Nora Shikin made it by 4 points from, Mohamad Hafizzudin Mazelan & Ku Anas Ku Zamil – reversing things from the windier Aust Nats at the start of the year! NZLs youth women, Erica Dawson & Vicki Francis of Murrays Bay SC and Stacey Swanson & Alice Pearson of Evans Bay YPBC were 7th and 8th, tying on points – close competition all round!

Meanwhile, reigning 420 World Ladies’ Champion helm (4th at last year’s ISAF Worlds), Alexandra Maloney (sailing here with Sam Bullock) won the 29er event...so 29ers watch out at Istanbul!

Leading results:
1 James Turner & Logan Dunning-Beck (Murrays Bay SC) 10 points
2 Alex Munro & Luke Stevenson (Wakatere BC) 22pts
3 Khairunnissa Mohd Afendy & Nora Shikin (MAS) 31pts
4 Mohamad Hafizzudin Mazelan & Kuanas (MAS) 36pts
5 Tomer Simphony & Brad Moss (Murrays Bay SC) 40pts
6 Brittany Wornall & Emma Goodwin (Mt Pleasant SC) 44pts
7 Erica Dawson & Vicki Francis (Murrays Bay SC) 46pts
8 Stacey Swanson & Alice Pearson (Evans Bay YPBC) 46pts
