Teams from Hungary also joined the clinic for day two, which started in the morning with an on-shore gybing session. Lead coach Nikos Drougkas spent individual time with each team, breaking down the stages of a gybe with one-to-one training for the sailors. After Nikos’ demonstration, each coach then supported their teams and worked through the gybing procedure.

The second part of the morning session was on-water, enabling coaches and sailors to practice their newly acquired knowledge on gybing, and review their tacking skills from the first day.

Immediately after lunch, Nikos held a video evaluation giving sailors the chance to review their mistakes and improvements. Then onto the second on-water session with repetitions of gybes and tacks. Nikos even got on some of the boats enabling him to show sailors the exact moment they should perform the particular step of the manoeuvre.

The day ended with another video debrief after dinner to help facilitate learning. During these theory sessions, Nikos teaches the young sailors not only how to sail, but importantly how to effectively evaluate their training and performance outcomes back on shore as well. This approach is based on thorough note taking for future reference.

This first ever 420 Coaches and Sailors Clinic in the Czech Republic is taking place from 25- 29 September at Jachetní klub Černá v Pošumav.
