SOUTH AFRICA'S 420 TALENT FACE EACH OTHER AT SOUTHERN CHARTER CLASSICS EVENT 3
Hermanus Yacht Club welcomed an array of classes - 420, Optimist, Laser 4.7, Laser Radial, Laser, Hobie 16, 505, Fireball and more - for event 3 of the 2018/2019 Southern Charter Classic Series, 9-10 February.
Racing on the lagoon waters off Hermanus Yacht Club, south of Cape Town, day 1 on Saturday was perfect conditions, but all change on Sunday as drizzle and fog rolled in to produce very light wind racing.
In the two previous events - Event 1 and Event 2 - different teams had claimed glory, and event 3 was no different as Matt Ashwell/Rivaldo stepped up to the podium. The pair put together a phenomenal scorecard over the two days of racing, racking up 3 wins and 3 second places to claim victory.
Closest rivals Johan Vivier/Eban Viver held a 1 point advantage goind into the final race, but were overhauled by Ashwell/Rivaldo who seized another race win, whilst the Vivier brothers could only manage to cross the line in third.
Third overall to Hamilton Slater/Theo Scheder on 17 points.
