Pablo Volker & Agustin Cunill Martinez win South Americans with a race in hand
Our very special correspondent in Buenos Aires says he is sorry to be a little slow in sending us news of the sailing on the penultimate day of the South American Championships. We will forgive him – it was party night on Saturday and he, that’s Pablo Volker, and Agustin were celebrating! They are the new South American Champions, with a race in hand!
So Pablo Volker writes (on Sunday morning):”We had a really good day yesterday with a 1, 1, 2. Today only one race left Yesterday we started with a light wind coming from the north at the beginning, with a really choppy river. By the second race it wasn't so choppy, but the wind decreased a lot with some current that meant that only 7 boats could finish the race. Then, after waiting some time for starting the 3rd race, the wind went to the south-east and increased to some nice 7-10 knots. We had a really nice race by the end of the day”.
The 2008 Semana de Buenos Aires winners, Benjamin Grez Ahrens & Carlos Vergara Infante (CHI) scored a bullet in the 3rd race of the day and have an 11-point lead over their fello countrymen, Jose & Agustin Jimenez Cox. Mariana Lombardo & Joaquin Fehrmann are in 4th (54 pints) and Juan Garcia Rodriguez & Tomas Ocampo 5th (63). Florencia Prego & Andrea Martinez of Uruguay are the leading women’s team.
We await the final race and final results. See YC Argentino for further information, photographs and Latest Results, plus the website of Matias Capizzano for his latest images.
