At the end of the first weekend of the Semana de Buenos Aires and after six races, Eduardo Mancinelli Scotti & Leonardo Cucchiara extended their lead. Discarding the penultimate race, but striking a bullet in the final one, Jordi Xammar & Ian Coyle, the Spanish/USVI partnership for the event, moved up to 2nd, while home sailors, Pablo Volker & Agustin Cunill Martinez are in 3rd. Benjamin Grez Ahrens & Diego Gonzalez of Chile staged something of a comeback by discarding their Race 2 disqualification and are on equal points with leading women, Nikole Barnes & Agustina Barbuto of the US Virgin Islands, but with Maria J. Cucalon & Andrea Collinsof Ecuador just a point behind.

Our man in the know, well in 3rd anyway, Pablo Volker, correspondent of the Argentine 420 Class and World Championship motivator, writes, “On thursday and friday we had the measurements. Some went out training on Friday, with some really nice 20 knots winds from the South East. On Saturday the first race started around 14 hours, with winds from South East also, but with 12 knots approx. By the second race, wind came up to 13-15 and, by the last one, a bit more. It was a really nice day for sailing, with the Italians sailing really fast and leading the races. On Sunday we started with light winds from the East. We had to wait until 14 hours for starting, when the wind increased to 6-8 knots. Edoardo and Leonardo could manage to win the first two races, but finally in the 3rd one, Jordi and Ian won the race. It was a really good weekend, with good sailors and good races. Next Saturday the regatta continues, and meanwhile we are having the Training Clinic” during the week.

Thanks, Pablo. Great to have this feedback, which will interest sailors who are planning to be at the Worlds at the end of the year in particular. We wish we could get this sort of story at every event!
