Hosted at Club de Veleros Barlovento, located north-west of Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, the 2018 420 South American Championships, 27 March to 1 April, features a strong line-up of twenty-nine 420 teams from Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay.

Day 1 of the four day race series kicked off on Thursday 29 March with no wind - and the fleet postponed for an hour. The breeze gently eased in with 6 knots for race 1, building to 8-9 knots from the north-east for race 3 - a stronger breeze than expected. However, today was all about the current, and the teams who could read it best, which is notoriously tricky on the silty waters, got ahead.

Brazil's Guido Visconti/Stefanot Motta delivered a consistent 2,2,4 scorecard to lead after day 1, by 2 points over Argentina's Maria Victoria Montalbano/Paloma Gutierrez, with Brazil also claiming third place with the partnership of Gabriel Lopes/Joao Vilela.
