After three days and eight races at the Australian Nationals in Melbourne, last year's top competitors Sam Kivell & Max Taylor and David Gilmour & Andres Noe are locked in a dual. Both on 15 points, some 19 ahead of the next group, Matthew Jerwood & Patrick Vos (34), Mark Whittington & Scott Sharpe (35) and Edward Campbell & James Omay (38). Leading women, Lauren Thredgold & Megan Soulsby (the “Psycho Chickens) are in 6th and Jacqueline Gurr & Emma Flukes (aboard “Morning Mist”) are but five points behind them.

Meanwhile, our men in the 29ers, Justin Liu & Sherman Cheng of Singapore, have won the Australian National Championship by 12 points (3 days, 9 races). Winners of the 420 Junior Europeans 2007 in Medemblik and just a few weeks ago the South East Asian Games in the 420, these guys had four days turnaround after their return from Pattaya, Thailand to set off to Melbourne. They certainly seem to have made the switch and set out their stall for the forthcoming 29er Worlds in Melbourne.
