The event marked the third Regata Nazionale 420, with points counting for teams vying for selection to represent Italy at the 2016 420 World Championship and 2016 420 Junior European Championship. For the frontrunners, their positions continue to be solidified as virtually certaintities for selection, whilst further down the leaderboard there is still all to play for. An impressive line-up of 109 teams contested the event - a regular fleet size for 420 sailing in Italy, where the class' following is exceptionally strong.

Racing on the same waters that will host the 2016 420 World Championship, 15-23 July 2016, three races were completed in challenging conditions which kept teams off the race track.

To ensure the best quality of racing and limit the overall size of 420 Championships, strict quotas are applied. For the 420 Worlds, each nation is allowed 7 entries in the Open and Ladies fleets, with 6 entries inthe U17 division. Host nation, which is Italy for the Worlds, gets 14 entries and 12 respectively.

The Totis/Zanni partnership managed the fleet well, delivering a 3,1,1 scorecard to place them firmly at the front. Second to Andrea Spagnolli/Kevin Rio, with top girls team and third overall going to Maria Vittoria Marchesini/Cecilia Fedel.
