Forty Two Teams Face off at Kereked International Youth Cup
Kereked Cup is event 1 of the 420 Sail Centrop Cup 2016 series, made up of four separate events in Austria and Hungary. Racing on Lake Balaton, 29 April-1 May, featured forty-two 420 teams from Austria, Hungary, Poland and Switzerland.
Poland's Julia Szmit/Hanna Dzik escalated from a misleading opening score of 14, to perform in a class of their own at the front of the 42 boat fleet. The pair picked up five back to back race wins in the 6 race series, finishing on an unassailable 5 point scorecard. At the 2015 Polish Junior Championships, this young team finished top girls and second overall, before going on to win the 420 Girls event at the ISAF Youth Worlds in Malaysia - so there is no doubting their form.
Their team mates Maciej Krusiec/Rafa Radecki (POL) pushed them around the race track, but just couldn't quite catch them after three double-digit scores increased their scorecard to 28 points. Austria's sister team of Theresa schiemer/Johanna Schiemer, finished 8 points behind in third.
The only race not won by Szmit/Dzik, was claimed by Agnieszka Lapiriska/Weronika Sawicka (POL), who went on to finish in 9th overall and fourth girls team.
Top placed home nation team, were Hungary's World Szabolcs/Csebfalvi Andras in 8th overall.
A indicator of the balance in form between boys and girls teams, pitched 4 girls teams in the overall top 10 leaderboard.
