Racing today (Saturday) in Kalanis Bay on the Bosphorous was described as “fantastic”. The open fleet concluded their qualifying rounds with a further three races in winds around 15 knots, in a fairly flat sea.

Imke Brockerhoff & Annika Storck (GER) extended their lead in the Ladies’ Championships, whilst Theresa Majer & Linda Weber (GER) overtook their team-mates to take 2nd place. Katerina & Sofia Kaitatzidou (GRE) moved up from 9th to 3rd.

New Zealand’s Susannah Pyatt & Danielle Bowater came off the water declaring this a better day…..conditions were “patchy”, with “bigger shifts and variable wind speed”.

German coach, Henrik Ismar, pleased with a good day for his sailors, especially the women’s boats, said there had been “fantastic racing” and that the Race Committee had done “an excellent job”. Asked about his team’s plans for tomorrow’s lay day, he was heard to murmur something about the Grand Bazaar and shopping!

All change at the top tonight! Following the application of the first discard, Antonio Pereira & Alfonso Prieto (POR) move from 9th yesterday into the top slot. Edoardo Mancinelli Scotti & Lorenze de Felice (ITA) move into second place, ahead of Perdo Mari & Xim Benjumeda (ESP).

Argentine helm, Francesco Sucari, said “If you were amongst the leaders, you never knew until the line who was winning!”. Commenting on the venue, Francesco said, “this place is really good, I’m looking forward to the lay day”.

GBR coach, Mark Plummer, referred to tricky and shifty conditions giving rise to some “really good racing”.

The open fleet have now completed their qualifying races and divide into gold and silver fleets for the final series which start on Monday. All the teams, coaches, officials and supporters look forward to a well-earned lay day in this great city.
