Coaching Support makes a difference at Youth Worlds

Renowned 420 Coach Nikos Drougkas is being funded by the International 420 Class Association to support the 420 teams competing at the Youth Worlds. With a combined fleet of 57 teams representing 34 nations, Drougkas' role is full on.

The International 420 Class Association has partnered with World Sailing to support the 420 youth sailors of the world competing at the Youth Worlds in Langkawi, Malaysia from 27 December-3 January.

The focus of the morning briefing to sailors, coaches and team leaders ahead of race day 4 was:

BEFORE RACE the sailors should work on:
Speed tests, especially downwind
How to prepare their upwind & downwind strategy
Don't risk start because of the shifty conditions.

Boomvang & chocks
Explain the relation between them and which mistakes we should avoid on trimming

Wind analysis
How the wind effects our course
Tips on the current
Present the wind forecast of the day and some parallels with other days
