This Grand Prix #2 is the second of three events to put Chile’s 420 sailors through the performance paces and select the one 420 boys and one 420 girls teams who will be on the starting line at the 2016 Youth Sailing World Championship in New Zealand, 14-20 December 2016.

The forecast was not looking encouraging for the weekend, but four races were completed in 10-15 knots. Tiebreak at the front, as the two leading teams Santiago Ugarte/Felipe Fuentes and Thomas Ugarte/Alejandro Natho traded places. Whoever didn’t win came second, with the rest of the fleet playing catch up.

Their exact scorecards put the team who had the best place in the final race on top of the podium, with the win to Santiago Ugarte/Felipe Fuentes and second to Thomas Ugarte/Alejandro Natho. Finishing in third place on the trace track in 3 of the 4 races, and claiming third overall were Patricio Natho/Enrique Feliú.

Top placed girls team in 8th overall were Victoria Novion/Paula Herman.

Also great to see that the top two finishing teams of Santiago Ugarte/Felipe Fuentes and Thomas Ugarte/Alejandro Natho are already entered for the 2016 420 World Championship in Italy.

The final Grand Prix event is on 4-5 June to decide the teams representing Chile in New Zealand.
