BIG BREEZE FOR INAUGURAL 420 NEW YORK STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

Oct 2016

The inaugural New York State Championship featured nine 420 teams for the 9 race series over the 8-9 October and hosted at The Waterfront Centre on Long Island.

Saturday was a head to head between Emma Kaneti/Walter Henry and Thomas Rice/Trevor Bornarth, with each scoring two bullets in the 4 races to lead the Championship on tiebreak.

All change on day 2, as conditions kicked up, with breeze over 25 knots changing the race track dynamics. No problem for Joseph Hermus/Reese Guerriero who won four of the five races on Sunday and leapfrogged from third overall at the start of the day to first by the end.

Exceptionally close racing saw just 2 points separate the leading three teams, with second to Emma Kaneti/Walter Henry and third to Thomas Rice/Trevor Bornarth. All three will go down in US 420 Class history for having their names on the podium at this first ever 420 New York state Championship. First girls team were Madeleine Rice/Ella Barry in 5th overall.
