Enoshima will host the 2020 Olympic Sailing Competition, and its profile has been boosted recently as the world's top teams seek out every opportunity to race on Olympic waters. Featuring 377 sailors from 22 countries, Enoshima Olympic Week continues from its debut in 1980’s when the 470 class had been selected as Olympic class for the Montreal Olympics. The event is also a stage of the ASAF Sailing Cup which targets the development of Asian sailors.

Three days of racing, 22-24 September, saw just 3 races completed for the 31 teams contesting the 420 fleet, as weather challenges kept the fleetoff the race track. One Singaporean team joined the otherwise all-Japanese line-up.

However, there was no doubting the superior skills shown by Yoshiki Tamayama/Syun Takasuga who took out all three race wins. Second to Chihiro Aoyama/Asuka Kuwano, with Teruaki Shimakura/Kiseki Yoshii collecting third.

Success for Japan across all fleets, to wrap up with three gold, one sliver and one bronze. Gold in the 420, as well as 470 Men with Keiju Okada/Junpei Hpkazono coming out on top, and Ai Yoshida/Miho Yoshioka taking the 470 Women crown. In the RS:X Women Fujiko Onisi claimed silver, and Kenji Nanri took third overall in the Laser.
