The 420 Class very popular in Italy, with large fleets regularly racing around the country, and the class continually growing.

Racing was held in two fleets, with the unstable weather proving a challenge for the Race Committee, who despite the unpredictable conditions managed to complete 5 races over the three day event.

Two races were completed on the opening day, Friday 1 May, in a light 7-8 knot breeze. A consistent performance from Carlotta Omari/Francesca Russo gave them a 1,2 scoreline and first overall, with Edda Ratti/Alice Tamburini in second and Gianmaria Caiconti/Edoardo Portoraro in third.

Despite patiently waiting, the wind was too weak and unstable on Saturday to get any racing completed. So all the focus moved to Sunday, with a shifty 4-9 knot breeze on the race track. During the day, the wind rotated more than 250 degrees, keeping teams and the Race Committee on their toes. Reading the wind shifts was key.

Omari/Russo yet again demonstrated their skill, clear evidence of why they are the reigning 420 Ladies World Champions, as the pair again completed an authoritative 2,1,2, score. Racing in the other fleet, Vittoria Marhesini/Alice Linussi knocked out an impressive hat trick. Three back to back wins were enough to see them recover from a disappointing opening day, which placed them well outside the top 10, to finish in second overall. Third to Ratti/Tamburini.

The next event in the series will be the 2015 Italian National Regatta Senigallia, 30 May-2 June 2015.
